Usage Instructions

These are simple, high-level steps and do not replace formal fire safety training.

1. If it is safe to do so, turn off the heat or fuel source, such as the gas stove, fryer, or electrical appliance.
2. Pull the blanket out of its container by the straps or tabs.
3. Wrap the top edge of the blanket around your hands to protect them from heat and flames.
4. Hold the blanket in front of you like a shield and move slowly towards the fire.
5. Gently place the blanket over the fire, starting from the side closest to you and covering the flames completely. Do not throw it.
6. Leave the blanket in place and do not remove it until the area has cooled down fully.
7. If the fire is too large or continues to spread, move away at once, close the door if possible, and call emergency services.
8. If the blanket is used to protect a person whose clothes are on fire, wrap them carefully and encourage them to roll on the floor until the flames are out.
9. Fire blankets are normally treated as single-use items and should be replaced after use.
